The PLANSEE Group is one of the world’s leading suppliers of the high-technology metals molybdenum (Mo) and tungsten (W), taking care of all steps involved in the lifetime of these high-tech metals, from powder production through powder-metallurgical processes, to the customer-specific processing and recycling of these materials. The materials are used by customers in advanced industries and are a key to today’s and tomorrow’s high-tech products. The PLANSEE headquarters in Reutte, Austria, employ more than 2300 people with >200 experts in the R&D domain.

Plansee Composite Materials GmbH is a part of Plansee High-Performance Materials belonging to the Plansee Group. The Plansee Group is leader in the field of powder metallurgy, covering the entire production process from the ore through to customer-specific components. The corporate division Plansee High-Performance Materials is an expert for components manufactured from molybdenum (Mo), tungsten (W), tantalum (Ta), niobium (Nb) and chromium (Cr). Alloys and composite materials from PLANSEE are used in electronics, coating technology (Business Unit Coating) or high-temperature furnaces, especially in applications where traditional materials meet their limits.

PLANSEE is a leading PVD target material supplier for hard coating applications, and is very competent in the field of heavy and refractory metals as well as metallic and ceramic composite materials. The R&D group has expertise in powder metallurgically-synthesized composite sputtering targets and cathodes for arc evaporation. The company is well-equipped with advanced sintering technologies, such as hot pressing (HP), hot isostatic pressing (HIP), and spark plasma sintering (SPS). It handles in-house every stage of the manufacturing and processing of composite materials from raw materials to the finished product.

PLANSEE will support IL TROVATORE with tailored cathode and target materials of interest, as well as know-how and experience on PVD material behaviour. More specifically, PLANSEE will develop and characterise sputtering targets for the project needs, manufacture tailored prototype targets utilising all technologies available on the PLANSEE production sites (WP1), support the partners on material selection in terms of target manufacturability (WP2) and identify business niches for the exploitation of the project results in various sectors (WP11).
